Wynn Las Vegas Casino Being Sued For Second Hand Smoke Danger

Casinos are only worried about one thing when they look at their business models, and that is the bottom line revenue figure. That is why many casinos have fought smoking bans, fearing that it will cause the bottom line revenue figure to drop.

The Wynn Las Vegas casino has now become the second casino on the strip to be sued for putting employees' health at risk by allowing smoking. Secondhand smoke has been proven to be a danger to the health of employees, and Wynn employee Kanie Kastroll is bringing on this latest suit.

The first secondhand smoke lawsuit was filed by the same Chicago based law firm. Harrah's Entertainment's Caesar's Palace was the target of the first lawsuit that was filed back in July. That lawsuit is ongoing and Harrah's has not even commented on the suit as of yet.

"These casinos are going to keep fighting for the right to offer smoking, but it is only going to take one judge to decide the casino should pay damages to change that train of thought," said Casino Gaming Analyst Steve Schwartz, "If there is a fear of being sued and losing millions of dollars per case, the casino may re-think their smoking policies."

The suit against Wynn is asking for an unspecified amount of damages to be paid. It is seeking class-action status, and the lawsuit also is asking for a court order to dictate that "reasonable measures' be taken to protect employees from the dangers of secondhand smoke.

In Atlantic City, casino have been spared a smoking ban after city officials backed down to the casino industry's wishes not to have the ban enforced late last year. The City Council suspended the implementation of the smoking ban for a year, citing the poor economic conditions.
