Zoning Change May Help Bring Slot Gambling To Perryville
Pennsylvania has several casinos in the process of being built, but if the state lawmakers get their way, there will be even more projects in the works. Part of what needs to be done when building casinos is to make sure they adhere to all zoning requirements.
In the case of the town of Perryville, they made things even easier for potential casino developers. The Perryville Board of Commissioners has approved a zoning change that clears the way for Penn National Gaming to build a slot parlor in the city.
Financial repercussions were at the center of the zoning decision. If Penn National builds the casino in Perryville, the town would have a right to some of the revenue generated from the casino. The other location Penn National is considering is outside of Perryville city limits.
The old zoning laws only included commercial construction. The new law now allows for commercial entertainment mixed-use development. Penn National still has not made their minds up on which location they will settle on.
Pennsylvania is one of the top states on the East Coast when it comes to casino gambling expansion. They have two casinos being built in Philadelphia, and another is under construction in Pittsburgh. That is in addition to casinos that already exist in the state.
The Mayor of Perryville believes a casino in his town could be open as soon as late 2010. The casino would give a boost to the residents in the town, and would help decrease the unemployment rate.
