Alabama Governor Goes On Offensive With Gambling Machine Makers

Alabama Governor Robert Riley is riding the type of high that a sports team reaches after a crucial turnover. It is the type high that immediately brings the team from the defensive, to the offensive, and that is exactly what has happened to Riley.

On the heels of an important state Supreme Court decision, Governor Riley is taking aim not only on his own state, but other states as well. Riley has sent a letter to gambling commissions in states throughout the US, and flaunting the Supreme Court ruling.

In the letters, Riley explains the court's decision and warned these commissions that gambling machine manufacturers that they regulate had better stop their business in Alabama. Riley went as far as to say that he will be attacking any manufacturer that brings their machines into Alabama.

"This ruling has statewide authority. It references every bingo amendment in Alabama and provides a clear and precise definition of bingo that applies to every county," said Riley in a press release, "What we've told the commissions is they need to make sure the manufacturers that operate under their jurisdiction are complying with the law in Alabama. For our part, we intent to prosecute violations of our law to the fullest extent."

While Riley is convinced that all bingo machines in the state are illegal, the Supreme Court stopped short of that in their ruling. The court ruled only in the case of one establishment, where the particular machines they were using were illegal.

Riley chose to take that information and run with it, but there are still several other cases in the state pending that could land Riley and the state on the other side of the court's ruling.
