Antigua And America Reset Deadline In Gambling Dispute Again

Antigua just wants some relief for companies that have lost their livelihood after the United States banned Americans from placing bets with online gambling operators outside of America.

The two sides have been negotiating a resolution to the issue, but so far have had no success. They have now set a new deadline of July 11th to work out a solution.

Not many will be holding their breath that a deal will be in place by the new deadline. This is the second time this month that the deadline has been extended. Both sides claim that there are ongoing negotiations taking place in good faith.

The WTO sided with Antigua last year when they requested to target U.S. services, trademarks, and copyrights. That was the good news for Antigua. The bad news was they could only impose a penalty of $21 million annually.

Recent talks have not led to much in the way of compromise. The two sides have vastly different ideas of how to negotiate. Antigua is trying to replace some of the money that was lost at the hands of the U.S. government. The U.S. on the other hand, seems willing to back the WTO only in decisions that benefit them.
