Arizona Senate Race : Polls Show Jon Kyl Over Jim Pederson
Those that get their odds from polls and not online sportsbooks will notice that incumbent Senator Jon Kyl has a 49% - 40% lead over challenger Jim Pederson, as reported on Sunday by the Daily Kos.
Sportsbook.com has the odds posted at Kyl -600 as a favorite over Pederson, which is also significant, and the offshore gaming company has reported to us that the large majority of money being wagered is being placed on the incumbent to win.
Although the outlook looks dim, the online poker community has done quite a job of rallying support for the challenger to Senator Kyl, Jim Pederson, who was a big underdog headed into the race.
The Poker Player Alliance has members of more than 250,000 and a mass email campaign was initiated just three weeks ago in an attempt to raise money for Pederson, and to let everyone know that Senator Kyl was instrumental in designing the modern day prohibition that was passed as the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.
The campaign by the PPA started late in the race, but the race that was once figured to have been a landslide was turned around by the PPA's support. The Alliance has raised enough money to keep Pederson's campaign afloat, however their efforts will most likely not be strong enough to pull off the upset.
The most important effect of the PPA on the Arizona senate race is the bringing of consciousness to politicians' minds the major presence of the online poker community.
