Arkansas Becomes Latest State With Lottery Gambling On Monday
While other states are focusing on increasing their gambling options through video gambling machines and casinos, Arkansas is just getting started in the gambling industry. On Monday, the state will begin offering scratch off lottery gambling tickets to their residents.
The state is moving in a gambling direction with the lottery, but they are also taking precautions in case people develop gambling addictions. The attention to detail with the problem gambling treatment in Arkansas has been intentional.
"Responsibility for problem gambling programs has been placed by law with the Arkansas Department of Health," said Julie Baldridge, Director of Commission and Legislative Affairs for the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery, "Since that agency does not have programs for behavioral addictions, they have subcontracted with the Arkansas Department of Human Services."
This attempt by the lottery to help problem gamblers will be the first of its kind in the state. There have been no previous efforts made to help gambling addicts, but the state feels like this program will be sufficient.
The funds for the program will come from unclaimed lottery ticket winnings. On each scratch off ticket the hot line number will be printed and it will also be available and on display at lottery retail locations.
