Assistant Principle Busted In Gambling Ring Bust In Texas
Yesterday we reported on how a house in Mission, Texas was raided by police in an illegal gambling ring sting. Today it was revealed that the primary person involved in that ring is an assistant principle of a school.
Jose Luis Esquivel, 38, was arrested over the weekend when police followed tips that he was holding high stakes poker games at his home. The games usually were played on Saturday nights, with forty to fifty people being involved.
While raiding the house, police seized $4,000 in cash. They also found various poker tables and chips in the home. Forty to fifty people were in the house playing cards at the time of the bust.
If convicted, Esquivel could face up to a year in prison and a $4,000 fine. He was charged with promotion of gambling, a misdemeanor class A charge. Cocaine was also found in the house at the time of arrest.
Esquivel is an assistant principle at Castaneda Elementary School in McAllen. The school has yet to discipline Esquivel because administrators are on summer break. There likely will be at least a suspension coming from the school.
