Atlantic City Promotes Money Over Lives With Casino Smoking Ban Delay

When it comes to human life, nothing is more important than money. that is the stance that the Atlantic City Council took on Monday night. They decided that it was more important that the city's casinos generate money, rather than save lives.

For years casino workers have been calling for government to stop smoking inside of their workplace. Many dealers and other casino employees have gotten extremely sick having to work with the constant presence of harmful cigarette smoke.

In the past year, Atlantic City decided that human lives were important, so they created a full ban on casino floors. That decision lasted only a couple of days after the ban was finally implemented.

On Monday, the City Council voted in favor of succumbing to the pressures of casino owners. They are now delaying the ban for a year because of the current state of the economy. Once the economy turns for the better, they will be back hard at work working for the people.

It has long been known in areas such as Las Vegas and Atlantic City that it is the casino owners with the deep pockets that run the city, not the politicians. This is an example of the casino owners crying about smoking laws hurting their business, and the city reacting.

The city has done nothing to establish betting limits in these casinos to save the people that frequent the casinos. Those people are struggling just as much as the casino owners, but the city does not care about that.

There has not been many instances where casino owners have given people money back because of a tough economy. As soon as it starts coming out of their pockets, however, a flag is raised and laws are circumvented.

"Atlantic City officials made a poor choice on Monday, one that will ensure that as long as their are casinos in their city, they will have no control over what goes on within their city limits. The casino owners will continue to have all of that control," said one disgruntled casino employee. While it was important for the smoking ban to be implemented, it is more important that city officials continue to get their Christmas bonuses from the casino industry.
