ATM Machines Approved For New Mexico Racino Gambling Rooms
One of the debates that comes up from time to time around the US is whether to allow ATM machines inside of casinos. Indian tribes already allow the machines, which makes it a difficult for lawmakers to keep them out of other casinos.
In New Mexico, a Bill had been passed that will ensure that racinos have the same operating rules as the tribal casinos. A 20-16 vote guarantees that ATM machines will be allowed to be moved inside at racetrack casinos.
"This ensures parity. It's just a matter of fairness," said Senator Richard Martinez, who sponsored the Bill. While Martinez believed he was creating the Bill to bring "parity", others voted for the Bill for a different reason.
"This really has very little to do with gaming and has to do with convenience for those who find it troublesome to wheelchair to the next room to access money," said Senator Carlos Cisneros, who was in favor of the Bill.
Other states have had similar Bills that have been not passed. Many believe that placing ATM machines on gambling floors is dangerous for people with gambling addictions.
"It is not that the access to a machine in close proximity to slot machines or table games is disastrous, but if the machines are further away, outside the facility, people will be more inclined to stay away instead of re-entering the casino,' said observer Warren Gruble.
