City of Barstow in CA Hopes for New Casino

Voted Top Online Casino Several Years in a Row!

Measure H on Tuesday's ballot to establish an Indian casino gambling zone has polarized this job-starved desert city like no other issue in recent years. It would establish about 600 acres for a casino and resort zone south of the city's popular outlet malls. City Hall has taken a strong position against the initiative based on a 3-2 vote by the City Council led by Mayor Lawrence Dale.

A critical swing vote cast by Mayor Pro Tem Gloria Darling sealed the opposition, changing the city's position from neutral. Darling said she changed her vote because she was told in Sacramento that if the council did not go on record opposing Measure H, the city's chances of getting an Indian casino ranged somewhere between slim and none. Three tribes are vying for the right to build casinos in the city are the Los Coyotes Band of Mission Indians of San Diego County, the Big Lagoon Rancheria of Humboldt County and the Chemehuevi Indians of San Bernardino County.
