Battle Escalates Between Lawmakers In Alabama Over Gambling Halls

The Governor of the state of Alabama, Bob Riley, has created a task force to try and cut down on the gambling halls that are operating in the state. His plan is to eliminate as many of these halls as possible.

On the other side of the fence is Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford. he believes that the task force is unnecessary and that the revenue generated at these gambling halls is much needed in these tough economic times.

The battle will become even more heated because many of these gambling halls are operated by one of the biggest voices in Alabama. With the task force already becoming a reality, the legal battle appears to have only just begun.

Langford and Riley have never seen eye to eye on the issue of gambling in the state. Riley believes that bingo when played on a machine becomes more of a slot machine and therefore is illegal.

Langford is of the opinion that bingo is legal in the state no matter whether it is played on a machine or in a bingo hall. The issue will heat up this legislative session when Langford and other lawmakers will be looking to tax the gambling halls.

Riley has already stated that he will oppose any attempt at either expanding the current gambling laws in the state or taxing these gambling halls. His goal is to remove gambling out of Alabama totally.
