BetonSports.com Shuts Down While Feds Continue Pressing Charges
United States prosecutors in Missouri announced yesterday that they will continue to press charges against BetonSports.com Plc and CEO David Carruthers despite the proactive willingness to shutdown the US-based website by BetonSports.com.
The case against BetonSports.com, which is drawing international attention (we actually broke the news on the Carruthers arrest story), is one of the most high-profile cases in online gambling history.
If you don't already know, BetonSports.com CEO David Carruthers and his team were on a business trip from the UK (headquarters) to Costa Rica (operations). In order to get to Costa Rica, they had a layover in the Ft. Worth, Texas airport.
While waiting inside the airport, federal agents swarmed Mr. Carruthers and the other members of his crew. All were arrested and charged with 22-counts based on US claims that BetonSports.com illegally accepted sports gambling wagers over the phone and the internet from US customers, and on top of that, they are accused of not paying applicable excise taxes.
