BetOnSports, David Carruthers, Gary Kaplan Deep in Troubles
BetOnSports, PLC is proving to be the shady organization that the US government is claiming it to be and it is casting ominous shadows over the online sports gambling industry.
It was reported by Gambling911 yesterday that over 800 employees who were laid off two weeks ago have not been paid by BoS. The Costa Rican goverment, which holds strict labor laws to ensure all employees receive severance pay, have been informed, however no action has been taken as of yet.
"One employee had been there over four years and is owed 15k. Multiply that number times 800 and you have roughly the amount that is owed to all employees total," said one source, a high ranking former official at BetonSports. "That's about $12 million owed to players."
That does not include the more than $15 million in player deposits that are still owed. It is rumored that if they do decide to pay the players, they will only recieve their deposits back, not any profits from winnings.
Gambling911 has found a number for former players to call for information about money owed: Costa Rica country code 011-506, #234 4515.
Meanwhile, back in the US, David Carruthers is rumored to be on the verge of accepting a plea bargain in order to avoid a conviction of racketeering and fraud charges.
A business law professor, Josesph Kelly, who is an expert in online gambling law, believes the FBI is more interested in getting information about Gary Kaplan, the founder of BoS. "Once the plea is reached," said Kelly, "Carruthers would cooperate with the prosecutors and disclose everything."
Kelly believes the case will not reach a trial. "It's overwhelmingly probable that the government doesn't want to bring Carruthers to court," he said. "They really want him to plea bargain and turn over information on Kaplan."
