Casino Gambling Issue 6 Heading Into Home Stretch In Ohio
Casino gambling is a hotly contested issue no matter where it comes up. In this election, it has come up in several states, but Ohio seems to have the biggest discrepancy between the pro and anti-gambling groups.
The anti-gambling groups in Ohio have gone to great lengths to try and trick voters into voting against Issue 6. They have used a wide range of tactics, but the one that they keep going back to is fear.
If they can fear enough people into believing that all the casino would do is bring danger to Clinton County, Ohio, then they would win their fight against Issue 6. It does not appear to be working, however.
Today's voter is less easily scared then the voters of twenty years ago. Today, voters actually take into account the effect the issues will have on them. That is where the pro gambling groups come in.
Groups that favor the casino expansion in the state point to the creation of new jobs and the large revenue that will be generated for the state should the casino be built. Those are issues that people are interested in.
The economy is crawling and people are losing jobs, so the creation of possible income is enticing to residents of Ohio. The increased revenue for the state is another point that voters are liking with Issue 6. If the state can create revenue and close the budget deficit, the taxes will not have to be raised.
Taxes are an issue that every American worries about. The less Uncle Sam needs to run the country, the more money that stays in people's pockets. This issue alone might be the determining factor as to whether Issue 6 passes next week.
Either way, it has been a fun two years of watching these groups spar back and forth. After Tuesday, one of these groups will claim victory, most likely it will be the pro-casino group.
That will leave the anti-gambling group searching to find another issue to oppose in the next election.
