Cincinnati Casino Initiative Cashes Out
The petition drive to get a Cincinnati casino gambling law initiative on the November ballot may have fizzled out, but Cincinnati area residents are likely to be bumping into petition-passers nearly everywhere they turn over the next six weeks. A number of issue campaigns scrambling to get 323,000 voter signatures on petitions before the Aug. 9 deadline are: Ohio Learn & Earn, the effort to get slot machines approved for horse racing tracks and the city of Cleveland.
SmokeFreeOhio, which wants a law passed by petition initiative to ban smoking in workplaces, including public places. Smoke Less Ohio, a group backed by bar and restaurant owners, race track owners and the tobacco industry with a petition initiative that would provide an exemption for their businesses.
