Clark County Chamber Opposes Cowlitz casino
Clark County's largest business organization has concluded the Cowlitz Tribe's proposed casino would not be in the best interest of businesses and residents. The Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce said a 1.6 million-square-foot business park on the casino site west of La Center would create better-paying jobs and cause fewer traffic and crime problems.
The chamber's board of directors on Tuesday unanimously adopted that position, which was developed by a four-member task force that examined the casino issue. "We are opposing a casino at this site, definitely," said John McKibbin, the chamber's president and chief executive officer.
"It's not the best use. "McKibbin said that a business park would not earn as much profit for the Cowlitz Tribe and the project's developers. It also would take longer to develop and fill with tenants, but its annual payroll would be 66 percent higher than a casino complex, he said.
