Cherokee County Bar The Location Of Latest Illegal Gambling Raid
It has been not only a busy year, but also a busy past week for law enforcement officials that are attempting to crack down on illegal gambling operations that are taking place throughout the US. The latest bust came Friday afternoon at the Buffalo House restaurant.
The Buffalo House restaurant, located in Cherokee County, Georgia, was the subject of a two month investigation by undercover officers. Friday afternoon, authorities executed a search warrant and arrested owner Chang Chun Wu.
Inside the restaurant were gaming machines that customers could play and then get paid out in cash when they won. The gaming machines are illegal under Georgia law once the machines' operators start paying out cash winnings.
"The Criminal Investigation Division has also received information on other establishments in the county who are allegedly participating in similar gaming activity," said officials in a statement after the raid, "The Cherokee Sheriff's Office will continue to pursue suspects who are involved in illegal gambling in Cherokee County."
Yesterday, a similar raid was carried out in Arkansas. Authorities from all across the US have been running undercover operations and attempting to stop these illegal gambling operations.
Earlier in the year, the target of many of these law agencies were Internet cafes. People would set up cafes where customers could come in and buy time on an Internet card. They could then use the time to play slot-like and bingo-like games on the computers.
