Chicago Mobster Receives Three Years For Gambling Operation
Mobsters are used to living the good life. They usually take whatever they want from whomever they want, racking up money along the way. That is the beneficial part of running with a crew.
The downside is what happened on Tuesday to Nicholas Ferriola. He is going to jail for three years for running an illegal gambling operation.
Authorities are convinced that they have put away one of the central figures in a crime family that took part in extortion and murder. If that is the case, it is a wonder that Ferriola only received three years in prison.
The police claim that he was not involved with any of the murders involving the mob he worked for, however, that did not mean he was not an important person to put behind bars. "He played a significant role in a long-running criminal enterprise," said U.S. District Judge James B. Zagel while imposing the sentence.
Ferriola is not the only one from his crew that is going to prison. Frank Calabrese Sr. is awaiting his sentence as well. Calabrese, who is thought to be the leader of the mob, could end up getting life in prison. several of his charges were related to eighteen murders that were unsolved for many years.
