Colorado Casinos Pushing South Dakota Toward Table Game Gambling

The casino gambling industry in the US is growing by the day and if it continues at this rate, it may not be long before full-scale casino gambling is the norm in the country. The latest state to consider gambling expansion is South Dakota.

Colorado casinos won the right to full-scale casino gambling in the election last November. The casinos were allowed to add roulette and craps to their offerings, and it has prompted South Dakota to take a look at their laws.

Currently, South Dakota law only allows for card games and slots. That may change in the near future with competition growing in neighboring states. Higher betting limits may also be on the radar of casinos in South Dakota.

"They (casinos in South Dakota) are starting to realize that in order to compete, they may have to again be on equal ground as other states when it comes to what they can offer their customers,' said Casino Gaming Analyst Steve Schwartz, "It is an issue that voters should start familiarizing themselves with."

The need for expansion due to competition is nothing new and is happening all across the US. Casinos in Pennsylvania and Connecticut have expanded their offerings in the hopes they can take what is left of the Atlantic City casino industry.

In Florida, the Seminole Indians are attempting to work out a compact with the state that would allow them to offer blackjack at their casinos. That is seen by many in the industry as a first step towards full-scale casino gambling in the Sunshine State.

As for South Dakota, lawmakers believe it is too early to start discussing the possibility that law changes may be in store for next year. They do acknowledge, however, that change could be on the horizon.
