Belmont Track Owner Still Waiting for License
The new owner of the Belmont greyhound track has renovated the building, which now has three restaurants and automated betting stations. But the track can't open until the state of New Hampshire gives it a gaming license. Track officials seem confident.
"I would certainly anticipate being fully open sometime between 10 days from now and July 1," Rick Newman, the spokesman and lobbyist for the Lodge at Belmont. The racetrack, formerly known as Lakes Region Greyhound Park, closed in April 2005. It was sold to two local developers, then sold again to Torguson Gaming Group of Biloxi, Miss. Torguson Gaming submitted an application to the state Pari-Mutuel Commission, which regulates gambling, in December.
As required by New Hampshire law, the commission gave the application to the state attorney general's office so that it could investigate everyone involved with Torguson Gaming; the report was not complete as of Monday. Ann Rice, an associate attorney general, said she thought her office would be ready to give the commission a recommendation on whether to license Torguson Gaming within the next week.
