Electronic Bingo Gambling Targeted For More Taxation In Alabama
The game of bingo was never a big money maker for state4s. Although the game did raise a lot of money for various charities, the states were never big beneficiaries of bingo.
In Alabama, the state is considering making electronic bingo halls begin to pay higher taxes. The expansion of these bingo halls in the state have been widespread, but Alabama has yet to receive their fair share of the revenue.
Now, legislators in the state are looking into a gambling tax that would raise revenue for the state. With the bingo expansion should come a revenue increase for Alabama, according to some legislators.
"It's a serious problem that we don't get any state revenue from bingo," said Senator Hank Sanders. That could all change if the Alabama Education Association gets their way.
With the education budget being slashed for the next year, the association is proposing a tax on electronic bingo halls and other gambling games. The hope is to ensure that critical facets of the budget are not eliminated.
"We need to tax these bingo games. The owners of these bingo halls are making money and they should at least help keep the state education budget in check," said Gary Trimmer.
