Experts Lining Up To Support Internet Gambling Regulations In US
They came together from all different industries this past week. Experts who believe that Internet gambling regulations are needed in the US attended initial discussions on proposed legislation that would overturn the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.
Some of the experts, such as Parry Aftab, from the Internet safety group WiredSafety, spoke of how the unregulated online gambling that currently exists is harmful and must be stopped. He spoke of how a regulated system would be beneficial to the people of the US.
Others from the financial industry told lawmakers that their task would be impossible should they be held accountable for stopping Internet gambling transactions. It is a stance that the financial industry has taken since the UIGEA was signed into law.
Representative Frank, who has been against the UIGEA from the start, opened the hearings with his interpretation of how the UIGEA would affect US residents. He also claimed that people in the US should be free to gamble online and be safe while doing so.
The current laws are making it easy for unregulated companies to gain the trust of American online gamblers. These gamblers then send their money overseas, and sometimes they never see it again. Honesty in the casinos is another area where experts believe that regulations would help.
In the coming weeks, more hearings will be held, and more experts will be paraded through the doors of Congress in Washington. Whether their pleas fall on deaf ears or not remains to be seen.
