Fire Department President Accused Of Bingo Scam In Pennsylvania
When it comes to the gambling world, nothing is held scared. Even when the gambling is being done for charity, there is still the chance that the stakes are too high and that someone will find a way to cheat.
That someone this past week was Roger Nogy, a fire department president in Western Pennsylvania. Nogy is being accused of rigging a charity bingo auction and splitting the money with the winner.
The woman who won the prize was a friend of Nogy's. She claims that Nogy, and his wife had agreed with the woman to split the winning money. They split the $1,500 that was raffled off.
Nogy quickly red the three numbers from the drawing, but did not display the winning bingo balls. Witnesses who saw the drawing said that Nogy acted suspiciously during the time of the drawing.
The woman who won the prize claims she did not help in the scam, but that she did split the money with Nogy. He is now being charged with theft by deception among other charges.
Nogy is the President of the volunteer Fire Department. This is not the first time where gambling has caused people to be greedy. The money generated from these charity auctions and raffles can be great, and the lure of the money sometimes pushes people to commit crimes to obtain a piece of the winnings.
