Fort Sill Apache Tribe Trying To Hurry Process For Casino Opening
Governor Richardson of New Mexico is opposed to a new casino that the Fort Sill Apache Tribe is opening. That means he will do anything possible to stop efforts of the casino opening.
Last month, he had officers block the entrance to the tribal casino, claiming they were illegally opening the casino. The tribe is now seeking court help to get the casino open.
The tribe has filed a motion to have their application for a thirty acre piece of land gain reservation status, quickly processed. they would like the process to happen quickly this way they can proceed with opening the casino.
Although Federal law prohibits gambling on trust lands, there is an exception. When a tribe gains a reservation for the first time, they are allowed to open a casino. This would be the case for the Fort sill tribe.
Once they receive the reservation status, they feel that would be a major step towards getting the casino open.
