Frank Online Gambling Bill Picks Up Fiftieth Co-Sponsor
Representative Barney Frank continues to pick up strong support for his proposed legislation that would bring an end to the ill-advised Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. He picked up his fiftieth co-sponsor on Monday.
Representative Mike Thompson from California is the latest to join the group of supporters. In July, Frank has picked up ten new co-sponsors and it appears that August will bring even more support for his effort to change online gambling laws in the US.
"These lawmakers are starting to realize just how out of touch previous lawmakers were when they adopted the UIGEA," said observer Mark Freely, "the new administration seems much more in tune with what people in the US want, and clearly, people want the right to gamble online legally."
That has been Representative Frank's take from the beginning. He has fought over the past few years for the rights of people to do what they want with their entertainment money in the privacy of their own homes. A Republican-led Congress has held Frank back in his previous efforts to overturn the UIGEA.
This time around, however, Frank has the political numbers in his favor, with the Democrats holding the majority in both the House and the Senate. Frank is also receiving a lot of support from Republicans that are trying to change the face of their party.
