Gale Fontaine Hits a Jackpot in Broward Court
A 56 year old woman was acquitted on all charges on monday of running illegal gaming halls.
Gale Fontaine has been on trial for running gaming halls which the sheriffs office believed to be against floridas gambling laws.
However, a jury on monday found no wrong doing on the part of Fontaine, who runs several of the over 100 gaming halls in South Florida. Jury foreman Christopher Peters cited "i think we felt she acted in good faith in opening up her establishment and we also felt the machines were a game of skill."
The arguement over whether the machines were skill or not, was the central focus of the case. And in the end the jury decided that indeed there was a bit of skill to the machines.
Fontaine has been at the forefront of the slot gaming halls controversy as she is the president of the Florida Arcade Association. She claims to have been fighting this case to vindicate not only herself, but her thousands of loyal patrons.
Although Monday's decision was a victory for Fontaine and the gaming community, the struggle is not over, as fontaine still faces criminal charges in a more recent raid on one of her establishments.
However Fontaines lawyer is hoping after this landmark decision those charges will be dropped.
