Gambino Crime Family Member Pleads Guilty In Gambling Case
Crime pays for mobsters, but in the long haul, most of them end up with lengthy jail sentences. That is the case with a reputed Gambino crime family member that plead guilty to gambling charges on Wednesday.
Nicholas Corozzo, a captain for the Gambino family, plead guilty to enterprise corruption. He now faces up to fifteen years in prison, and at sixty eight years old, that could mean the rest of his life.
Corozzo was arrested with sixty one other members of the gambling ring last February. Although he plead guilty to the state charges, he also is facing federal charges involving the gambling.
He has plead not guilty to federal racketeering, extortion, and murder charges. The federal case is charging that he ordered the killing of a rival mobster on January 26th, 1996. An innocent bystander was also murdered in the killing.
Bail has been sent for Collazo by a judge in Queens. He will not be getting out on that bail anytime soon, however. Federal authorities are holding him without bail.
The gambling ring that he plead guilty to being apart of took bets in excess of $10 million in a two year period according to authorities. The bets were taken on various sports including both college and professional.
