Gambling Becoming Big Business In U.S. Judicial System
Gambling is a big business, so big in fact, that companies and individual people are ending up in court over different aspects of the industry. U.S. courtrooms are filling with gambling related lawsuits.
The actual cases involving gambling have a wide range of reasons why they are in court. Some are there for greed purposes, while others are trying to get what they feel they deserve.
In the last year, there have been cases involving casino developers who ran out of money and could not pay the workers who were on their projects. There also was cases of Indian tribes suing for the right to open more casinos.
The court cases have not been limited to companies, either. Individual people have sued state lotteries for selling scratch off tickets in which the top prizes had already been given out.
Another case involved a woman who was not paid the jackpot that she won on a slot machine in a casino. She ended up winning that case pending an appeal from the casino.
The appeal process is another that is jamming up courtrooms in America. For every case that goes to court, most are appealed by the loser of the original verdict. The process has become long and drawn out.
The increase in gambling related court cases does not look to be declining anytime soon. States in the country are currently expanding their casino gambling options, and that will only lead to more lawsuits.
