Gambling Forums And Rallies Taking Place In Massachusetts And Ohio
The casino gambling issue has now reached a climax in Ohio, while in Massachusetts the issue is just getting heated up. In both states, important events are being held this week regarding the future of casino gambling.
Ohio voters are now officially on the clock. Next week, voters will decide whether or not to approve Issue 3. If approved, Issue 3 would authorize casinos in Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, and Toledo.
For the first time ever in Ohio, it appears that voters are in favor on the casino expansion. The Ohio Jobs and Growth Committee has done a stellar job in educating the public on the benefits of casino gambling.
The economic recession is also playing a part in the new stance by voters. Thousands of jobs will be created if the four casinos become a reality, and many of those employment opportunities will go to people who have previously lost their jobs during the recession.
This week, there are pro-gambling rallies being held. At these rallies, organizers are stressing the importance of understanding the issue. The rallies are also being used to foil the misconceptions that casinos bring crime into an area.
In Massachusetts, the battle is just beginning over the casino gambling issue. The Mohegan Sun will be holding forums this week to support their plan for a casino in Massachusetts. Lawmakers in the state have been lining up behind the casino gambling issue.
Governor Duval Patrick, House Speaker Robert DeLeo, and Senate President Therese Murray all are supporting casino expansion. Patrick would like the expansion to include casino resorts, while DeLeo and Murray support slots at state racetracks, and also would accept casino resorts.
