Gambling Lands Governor Patterson's Son In Hot Water In New York
Governor David Patterson and the state of New York have been working on casino gambling expansion in order to compete with neighboring New Jersey. On Tuesday, it was a potential gambling situation that landed Patterson's son in hot water.
Officers in the Upper East Side took Alex Patterson in for questioning after finding the younger Patterson playing dice Tuesday afternoon. The younger Patterson was not charged with any crime, but a juvenile file was started.
Officers allege that Alex and four of his friends were playing dice for money. A police department spokesman acknowledged that money was exchanging hands during the dice game. The department, however, did not go into detail about the events that landed the governor's son in a cop car.
In addition to the possible gambling issue, authorities also claim that Alex Patterson pulled out a bank card with someone other than his own name on it. A check of the card found that the card was reported lost.
Alex Patterson is fifteen years old, as were the friends that he was gambling with. Three of the friends were allowed to leave. The fourth was found to have graffiti markers on him, and the bank card was found on Patterson.
New York has been expanding their legal gambling options in the state in the past couple of years. It is still illegal, however, to throw dice for money outside of a casino.
