Gambling Law Amendment Proposed By Pa Senator Jane Orie
Pennsylvania State Senator Jane Orie wants to change the state gambling laws by proposing an amendment that would bar any public officials from holding ownership in state-regulated gambling casinos.
"There is universal agreement that the law legalizing gambling in the commonwealth needs to be fixed to ensure that corruption, fraud, political influence and criminal activity do not taint the gambling industry," said Orie.
The changes Orie and others are proposing include barring public officials and immediate families from holding any ownership. Other changes would include giving the State Attorney General power to oversee investigations of wrongdoing at casinos and eliminating the requirement that middlemen suppliers sell and service slot machines.
"Pennsylvania is the only State in the nation with this ludicrous requirement," said Orie. "This provision of our state law is fraught with political cronyism, favoritism and the potential for corruption so it must be eliminated. "
