Gambling Machine Owners Not Learning Lesson, Two More Arrested
Illegal gambling machines are the new craze among small business owners who are looking to make a quick buck. Gas stations, quick marts, restaurants, and bars, are all places that these illegal gambling machines have surfaced.
Authorities throughout the United States have been cracking down on these machines, but people have not taken to the warnings. On Thursday, two Flowery Branch men were arrested as a result of an investigation.
Anjuna Patel and Paresh Patel were both arrested during a raid by police at a Shell gas station on McEver Road. The two were charged with commercial gambling and keeping a gambling place. The arrests were made after the police received complaints.
The complaints claimed that people were being paid in cash when they won on video gambling machines at the gas station. Authorities searched the gas station during the raid. "During the course of the search $1,400 in U.S. currency was seized," said Lt. Scott Ware.
The arrests follow a nationwide attempt by law officials to crack down on these illegal video gambling machines. The machines have become popular among gas stations and bars.
If no cash was paid out, the machines are legal in most states. Once money is paid to winners, it becomes illegal gambling.
