Authorities in the state of Georgia have been hot on the trail of business owners who are operating illegal slot-type gambling machines. On Wednesday, the authorities continued their crackdown with a sweep of raids.

Clayton County was the scene of the raids that took place on Wednesday. Police officers confiscated forty-five machines and $300,000 in the raids and multiple reports claim that there were more raids and arrests to come later in the day.

"These illegal proceeds could be financing other illegal activity both here in Clayton County as well as abroad," said Sheriff Kem Kimbrough Sr. "There are Homeland Security implications. If the money's going overseas, we don't know where that money's going."

Georgia is not the only state that is cracking down on illegal gambling activity. North Carolina, Florida, and Alabama are just a few of the many states that have conducted raids on establishments where illegal video machine gambling was taking place.

"Authorities in these states have had to crack down even harder than ever before because the states are now offering a larger pool of legal gaming options," said Gaming Analyst Steve Schwartz. "Police have been saddled with the duty of ensuring that all gambling money being spent is being done so in the legal arenas where the state gets tax revenue from the gambling."

Several of the people that were arrested in Georgia on Wednesday told news agencies that they did not know they were doing anything illegal. The majority of the arrests were clerks and store owners, with some players arrested as well.
