Gambling Relief Could Be on The Way For Indiana Bars

Many bar owners in Indiana were relying heavily on their sales of paper pull tab lottery tickets in the state of Indiana. The bars were helping to pay the bills with the sales of these and other forms of gambling.

When the state cracked down last year on illegal gambling, many of these bar owners were forced to stop offering these forms of gambling. That has since hurt some of these bar owners' ability to pay their bills.

Relief might be on the way. A new proposed Bill is on the table that would allow bars to offer small stakes gambling, and also sell paper pull tabs.

The House has already approved the Bill by a convincing 62-36 margin. It is now up to the Senate Appropriations Committee to vote. That is expected to happen sometime this week.

The Bill is receiving some opposition. The state of Indiana has all forms of gambling ranging from casino gambling, all the way to state funded lottery gambling. House Minority Leader Brian Bosma believes there is already enough gambling in the state, and has voted against the Bill.

"Part of the reason we brought the Bill was not to change any social norm but to talk about where the proper venues for that behavior are. I believe in places where access is limited to those who are twenty or over and where it's an elected opportunity, it makes sense," said Representative Matt Bell, one of the Bills authors.
