Gambling Ring Arrests In South Florida Continuing To Mount
Police had spent three years investigating an illegal gambling operation that was being run out of Runyon's restaurant in Coral Springs. Last week, authorities arrested twelve suspects in the case.
On Tuesday, the arrests continued to pile up for people who were involved in the illegal gambling operation. Kevin Gilbo was arrested at the Tamarac Community Center on Tuesday night. The arrest was the thirteenth from the investigation.
Police are claiming that more arrests could be coming from the investigation. Police had infiltrated the operation and were placing bets with am offshore Internet gambling company, Chappy Sports.
The gamblers were placing bets over the Internet or by phone. Then, payouts were being made in South Florida. The organization had clients as far away as Tampa, but most were local.
Gilbo, who was arrested on Tuesday, was charged with money laundering, racketeering, and bookmaking. He is still in jail on $1.2 million bond.
The investigation began back in 2005, according to police, and many of the twelve people arrested last week are still in jail.
