Gambling Scandal Rocks Seoul, Soth Korea
A government already under the gun for allowing the countries slot machine business to thrive, is again coming under fire for an alleged gambling scandal that may involve President Roh Moo-hyun's nephew.
Speculation and rumors have been flying about the political backing of the slot gambling parlors and now the prosecuters have begun a crackdown on many game machine businesses.
Roh is a president who has a record low low popularity due to his flip-flop policies, and if his relatives or his aides are to be found to be involved in this scandal, it can only hurt his already checkered presidency.
'The Sea Story', a slot machine empire is at the forefront of the investigation. They run over 12,000 arcade game outlets in the country.
There is a presidential election coming up next year and several media reports are claiming that many opposition and ruling lawmakers are recieving bribes from these slot machine owning companies to raise their funds for the election.
Roh's office has continuosly denied reports that his nephew was involved in any wrong doing.
