Germans To Be Formally Warned By European Commission Over Online Gambling
Germany has decided that there will be no online gambling on anything outside of horse racing. News of the new laws was not taken lightly by Europe's online gaming industry.
The European Commission is expected to formally warn Germany about their new laws next week. The commission is not happy with the new laws and the effect it has on foreign competition in the gaming market in Germany.
"The Commission is expected to open a new legal action with a letter of formal notice against Germany over the new law and could well drop the old legal action it started last year," said a source from the gaming industry.
The European Court of Justice could end up being the final destination of the legal action the Commission is taking. It will be up to them to decide whether Germany will have to change their laws. Another option could be to fine Germany for the current laws.
The European Union has laws for the free movement of services. The European Gaming and Betting Association feels that Germany has disregarded these laws with the new laws they have put in place.
