Group Makes Last-Ditch Effort to Repeal Pa. Casino Law

People from neighborhoods impacted by proposed slot-machine parlors in Philadelphia rallied on Thursday, on the eve of the deadline for submitting comments to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

Two licenses are to be doled out in Philadelphia, under a state law that legalized them. But not everyone is on board:

"We want to make Philadelphia casino-free!"

But the coalition of groups from every neighborhood impacted -- including Fishtown, East Falls, Nicetown, Northern Liberties, and South Philadelphia -- believes it's not too late to repeal Act 71, just like the pay raise issue for elected officials:

"Take your casinos and shove it!"

Rene Goodwin is with the Pennsport Civic Association, which is against the casino proposal for Columbus Boulevard at Reed Street, in South Philadelphia:
