Harry Reid's Son Calls For Less Reliance On Gambling In Nevada
US Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has made many important decisions in his time in Washington and those decisions have often coincided with what was best for his state of Nevada and their gambling industry. Now, Reid's son, Rory, wants to lessen the reliance on gambling in the state.
Rory Reid is a Clark County Commissioner that is running for governor of Nevada. Among the other issues that Reid feels are important is the state's reliance on the gambling industry for economic survival, and that is something he wants changed.
The elder Reid has been opposing any type of Internet gambling law changes in the US for the fear that it will cripple the casino industry in Nevada. Even now, with casino developers such as Harrah's Entertainment giving in to the fact that online gambling will soon be regulated in the US, Reid has maintained his position.
Nevada has already dealt with financial constraints in the past couple of years, and next year it could get much worse. The possibility exists that the state will have a $2.4 billion budget deficit by 2011.
Casinos in Nevada have been the driving force behind the economy for decades. The recent economic meltdown in the US has crippled the Nevada casino industry, and, in turn, that has put the state in financial trouble.
While Senator Reid is a popular figure in Nevada, Rory believes that will have no bearing on whether he wins the election to become governor or not. He feels that his stance on key issues will weigh more heavily in the voting decision of residents in Nevada.
