Idaho Residents Could Soon Be Gambling On Virtual Horse Races
The state of Idaho is one of the great states in the country that is a little slower to come around to new concepts than the rest of the country. That will not be the case if Governor Butch Otter and the Idaho State Racing Commission get their way.
The governor and the Commission have agreed on a rule change that would allow pari-mutuel betting on virtual horse races. The state already ha started down the path of joining the twenty first century.
Legislators have passed laws that currently allow Idahoans to bet on dogs and enjoy simulcasted horse races. Now, the governor and the Commission are looking to expand that law to include video horse racing.
The one downfall to the new rule would be that there would be no regulation at the start to ensure the integrity of these game manufacturers. That would be something that would certainly follow the rule, however.
Some members of the current administration have shown opposition to the new rule. "It is my intention that if a rule promulgated by the Horse Racing Commission authorized pari-mutuel betting on something besides those live animal races currently allowed by law comes before the legislature for review, I will recommend it be rejected," said House Speaker Lawerence Denney, in a letter to the Racing Commission.
Although there is opposition to the new rule, the governor and the Racing Commission are leading the way for Idaho residents to finally enjoy the freedoms that people in other states already have.
The gambling laws in most states have expanded greatly over the past several years and Governor Otter is trying to ensure that his state is not left behind. The new rule will be beneficial to the economy of the state and will be a strong indication that Idaho residents are on their way to individual freedom.
