Illegal Computer Gambling Operation Uncovered In Georgia
Illegal gambling operations take in so much money that the people that are running them will do anything to keep them running. One woman in Georgia found out the hard way that even creativity can get you arrested if what you are doing is illegal.
April Gibson turned herself in to authorities on Tuesday morning. She is being charged with one felony count of commercial gambling. She is the owner of Treasure Buy Internet Service.
The business was set up, according to authorities, to be a front for an illegal gambling operation that was taking place on computers. The computers were turned into video slot machines with the purchase of special cards.
"They supposedly had this Internet service that you could pay to use by purchasing a card. And you could go down there and just surf the Internet if you wanted to, but if you wanted to gamble, you would pay for another card that would convert the computer to a video poker machine,' said Sheriff Mike Cleveland.
The fact that the computers converted to video poker machines was not illegal. Cleveland indicated, however, that winners were able to cash in winning points for cash. That is illegal in Georgia and resulted in the felony charge to Gibson.
