Illegal Gambling Machine Sweep Leads To Citations In California

So this is what the gambling machine crackdown in the US has led to. A Montclair police officer carried out a sweep on the illegal machines and came up with four illegal video gambling machines.

A Montclair police officer carried out the sweep, and unlike in other areas of the country where major operations were busted, the police officer only confiscated four machines. Two of the machines were found ion the same location.

As is the case with most of these operations that take taxpayer money to fund, no arrests were made. The sharpest penalty any of the business owners received were misdemeanor citations. The officer also seized funds from the machines, totaling $700.

"The authorities around the US have made an effort to ensure that these video machines were not in use in their jurisdictions," said Gaming Analyst Steve Schwartz, "The problem is, in most cases, the law is not clear on which of these machines are legal and which are not."

California is one of the states that has many legal casinos. Law enforcement officials want the gambling to stay at the casinos, so they have been taking part in routine sweeps to ensure that illegal machines are not in use at convenience stores and bars.

In Alabama, Governor Robert Riley has set up his own task force to go after establishments that are operating the illegal machines. Riley received a vote of confidence last week when the Alabama Supreme Court ruled in his favor pertaining to a case where the task force seized machines.
