Illegal Gambling Operation Busted In Florida, Nine Arrested
Most states in the South have experienced a higher level of illegal gambling operations over the past several years. Police in these states have been doing their best to sniff out these operations, and bust them.
Another of these raids took place in Haines City, Florida late this past week. It has become the norm for these operations to be busted and shut down, but have no arrests made. That was not the case in Haines City.
Nine people were arrested in what was a join sting operation between the Sheriff's Office and Haines City Police Department. The Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms were also involved in raiding Amos' Tavern at 200 US Highway 17-92 North.
"The people running these gambling operations need to understand that they are taking a huge risk, even more than in the past,"s aid observer Thomas Brown, "with states legalizing casino gambling, they want to ensure the money goes to legal casinos, not illegal ones."
At Amos' Tavern, there was plenty of illegal activity taking place outside of just the eight gambling machines that police seized. Illegal card games were also taking place, according to tips that the police received.
Ernest Amos, the owner of the establishment, was arrested. He was charged with one count of keeping a gambling house, eight counts of possession of an electronic gambling machine, and one count of gambling.
