Illegal Poker Games Raided By Authorities in Texas
While the country continues to deal with the threat of terror and violent crime, the authorities are still hard at work trying to capture criminals in the world of poker. Another private poker game was raided on Friday in Texas.
Authorities had been busy at work running an undercover investigation since April. When they finally got around to busting up two separate games, they rounded up the people in the parlors, and gave them citations.
No arrests were made as of yet, and it is not known if any were going to occur. What was known is that eleven people were issued citations for the illegal poker game.
"We've been working an undercover investigation into citizen complaints about illegal gambling in the county since April," said Guadalupe County Sheriff's Investigator Lt. Kevin Jordan. "Right now, we're looking at misdemeanors, but there's a possibility of felony charges of engaging in organized criminal activity," he said.
The game was in violation of the states laws because the house was taking a rake from each hand. That means that for every hand played, the house took a cut of whatever the pot was.
Had the games been played where the players were simply gambling against each other, it would not have constituted a violation of the law. Once the house starts taking money, the game becomes illegal.
