Internet Gambling Ban Angers Americans
"Internet gambling does nothing to promote sustainable economic development," U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur, D-Toledo said. "It merely offers an opportunity for offshore companies and foreign interests to make a quick buck on the backs of the poor and vulnerable."
So goes the majority of political opinion about Internet gambling.
In essence, Marcy Kaptur, along with all who agree with her statement, is calling 20 million Americans who participate in online poker, poor and vulnerable.
I am requesting that Kaptur and her fellow politicians say this statement to the face of all 20 million Americans whose basic freedom to enjoy an American lifestyle has been thoughtlessly stolen from them.
I am also requesting that Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Indian Casinos, horse tracks, dog tracks, bingo halls, state run lotteries, and other AMERICAN gambling halls be shut down as to stay consistent with political beliefs that gambling is wrong and preys on the weak and the vulnerable.
The reality is that this bill that bans Internet gambling is not angering Americans because it bans a pastime and a cultural phenomenon, it is angering Americans because of how it was passed and the exceptions in the bill to other forms of American gambling.
Lets start with how it was passed. There were no options for politicians to attach amendments to this bill. There was no time for politicians to even read the bill before it was brought up in Congress. There was no opportunity for any dissent or discussion to enlighten politicians before they voted.
The reality is that this bill was deceitfully attached to a Port Security Bill by a corrupt politician, Senator Bill Frist, who claims he is against gambling, yet was able to carve out exceptions for horse racing and state run lotteries, all while accepting campaign contributions from Harrah's Entertainment.
The reality is that Senator Bill Frist is corrupt and needs to be investigated.
The reality is that most politicians are out of the loop when it comes to online gambling.
We have read more than 300 stories about the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act since it passed and have followed Internet gambling in general for more than three years now. It is very clear to us that American politicians know very little about how this industry is run. It is very clear to us that those politicians base their opinions on scant knowledge and untrue stereotypes about gambling in general. It should be clear now that those same politicians then take those opinions and form awful laws that will eventually destroy an entire American cultural phenomenon and lifestyle.
It is apparent that this is just a microcosm of how the entire United States government is run.
It is time Americans wake up and realize what is going on in their own country.
It is time Americans do something about it before even more freedoms are taken away.
We will be at the rally for freedom in Washington D.C. on November 3-4. Will you?
