Internet Gambling Ban Finally Getting Some Press
A writer from the associated press has picked up on how the Republican banning of internet gambling may have a very possible and unexpected side effect of hurting the GOP in this Tuesday's elections
The article was released by the Associated Press this morning and was immediately picked up by the Washington Post and other major American news organizations.
Most notable in the article is how it has only one quote from one Republican saying how Internet gaming is not a major issue that will effect American voters, followed by several quotes from long time Republicans who said they would vote the other way this year because of the ban.
What the GOP underestimated was just how many Republicans, Liberals, Democrats, and people in the religious sects participate in playing online casino games, according to the article. The GOP also appears to have underestimated the importance of those games to those people.
"I don't get out much," says Ronald, an online casino player from Florida, "and playing casino games online is my form of entertainment, and the bill that just passed takes that entertainment away from me, it's prohibition all over again and its not right."
As stated in the AP article, 'with Republicans already on the defensive over the Iraq war, budget deficits and the congressional page scandal, the gambling law is the latest issue that could steer voters away from the GOP.'
"I've been a loyal Republican for over 30 years, and I'm quitting the party I once loved," said Jim Henry, 55, who lives outside San Francisco. "Not because of the Mark Foley scandal or Middle East policy. But because the Republican Party wants to stop me from what I love to do: play poker over the Internet."
A small protest in Washinton D.C. is taking place today to voice concerns against the Internet Gambling Ban.
