Internet Gambling Debated Today On House Floor
The anti- internet gambling bill of 2006 was debated today on the US House floor. Rep. Goodlatte broached the bill and the argument against it was led by Rep. McGovern.
McGovern asked the House why they were debating this topic that had to do with family values when more important family value topics, like increasing the minimum wage that hasn't been increased since 1997, needed debating.
The bill was put up for a vote and was passed on partisan lines by a 214 to 188. The bill bars financial insitutions from processing charges, debits, checks, etc. to online gambling related websites. Many argued that this will be impossible to enforce for the banking istitutions.
Also argued was the point that online horse betting was exempt from the bill, which was argued to be hypocritical to the bills intent.
