The state of Iowa looks ready to move towards expanded gambling. Many states have created the model by which gambling can become an ally, and Iowa appears likely to follow that model.

In the current economy, states are scrambling to find the best way to raise revenue to help balance state budgets. One of the ways that has become popular is to expand gambling, either through casinos or state lotteries.

State regulators in Iowa have hired consultants to assess the current gambling situation and to advise whether the state4 has enough room to expand the gambling industry. The regulators will be relying heavily on the outcome of these consultant reports.

The state will take their time in deciding whether expanded gambling will come to light. They expect that a decision will be made in either June or July regarding new gaming license applications.

"Because it is such an important issue, and something that touches the whole state..we think that having two studies will give us better information," said Commission Chairman Greg Seyfer.

Iowa already has seventeen state regulated casinos that are bringing in over $100 million a month in gross gambling revenue. If there are areas where expanded gambling can be of assistance, and the room is there, the state would certainly consider expansion.
