Issue 6 In Ohio Now Dealing With Religious Opposition
When it comes to religion, it does not matter how much casino gambling can help a community. If it does not fit into the religious beliefs of some, it will forever be opposed.
That is the situation facing Issue 6 in Ohio. The casino proposition that is on the upcoming ballot is now being opposed by Richland pastors. Richland Community Family Coalition is leading the way against Issue 6.
Spokesman Ben Mutti led a rally against Issue 6 outside of Mansfield City Hall. The rally was being held to get the word out on how damaging casino gambling could be to the area.
The addition of jobs and revenue in these tough economic times are certainly not what residents of Ohio need right now. With unemployment growing, the casino would give some relief to hundreds of families.
The ministers do not see it like that, however. "In light of the global financial crisis, now more than ever wisdom is needed on decisions regarding financing. Throughout history, kings of nations, chief executive officers and business entrepreneurs have gotten their wisdom from one source: the Bible. The regional church of Richland County recognizes this, and clearly believes that casino gambling will create more problems than it will solve," said Rev. El Akuchie of Godsfield House of Prayer.
The religious group is not the first that has come out against Issue 6. Various groups have run advertisements trying to sway voters with fear. Even with the negative ads, voters will make up their own minds on the issue in November.
