Italians To Legalize And Regulate Online Gambling
The Italian government, as recently as February, tried to ban IP addresses of online gambling sites, and then a few days later attempted to get some of the revenue in the industry by setting up a working relationship with an online poker room.
Now, it appears the countries higher ups have had a change of heart, as of January 1, 2007, it will be legal for citizens of Italy to gamble online.
Also cleared by the government is the likes of bingo parlors and public sports betting.
One of the main reasons this gambling became legal is because the Italian government is set to make 3% on all revenues collected by companies from Italian customers.
What will be interesting to see is how the U.S. reacts, as it appears that their attempt to ban the industry to Americans will be rejected and therefore, maybe they will take the route of other countries such as Italy, and try to regulate the gambling instead of illiminating it.
